A Good Reason to Bail – Pic of the Day

[singlepic id=111 w=400 float=left]   This pic was taken (of me) at the base of La Esfinge (The Sphinx) in Peru’s Corderilla Blanca after we had rappelled from midway when a storm came in.   La Esfinge is a 2,500 ft. rock face that tops out at over 17,000 ft.   I was attempting the climb with my buddy Jack. We woke the next morning to more snow and then bailed back to Huaraz.   Jack and I went off to climb Talliraju, but got stormed off of that too.   I returned to La Esfinge a few weeks later and climbed the wall in a day with my wife Lisa and her brother Carter.   It snowed on us on that ascent as well, but not enough to warrant retreat.
