I had planned to hike up a mountain to film the fireworks from farther away, but impending rain and fatigue kept me at home. Fortunately, I live right underneath where the fireworks go off, so the viewing is top-notch right at home.

I shot these on the Sony A7S III. Most of the exposures were between 2-4 seconds long, between f11-22 and I shot at both ISO 800, and 12800 (native ISO for the A7S III). I used a 2 sec. shutter delay on the tripod to avoid camera shake. As you can tell, I was kind of playing around to see what worked the best. Timing and some luck seemed to choose the winners as I can’t tell the difference in most of the end results. The 2 second delay meant I had to guess when a good firework was soon to go off. I should have used my phone as a remote trigger, but I also felt I had my hands full tinkering with camera controls in the dark as it was.

I’m quite please with the results. I wasn’t really going for any type of look, so the fact they look cool is a win to me!
